With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Dawn Cooney of Addison, who passed away on July 9, 2026, at the age of 64. Born on April 28, 1962, in Fort Worth, Texas, Dawn spent most of her life in the Chicagoland area. She lived life on her own terms—with strength, independence, compassion, and determination. She built a successful career working in the dental field, where her professionalism and dedication earned the respect and friendship of many colleagues. Dawn took great pride in her work and genuinely enjoyed the relationships she built throughout her life and career. Above all else, Dawn had an extraordinary love for animals, especially dogs. Her beloved companions, Sydney and Sundance, who she missed deeply after their passings, held a special place in her heart.
Dawn treasured her family and was a devoted daughter, sister, a loving aunt, and a loyal friend. She had many nieces and nephews, who will forever remember her kindness and generosity. Dawn was always so proud of all their individual accomplishments and spoke of them often. She embraced life with an adventurous spirit and enjoyed traveling, discovering new places, and making lasting memories with friends. Dawn valued her independence and lived with quiet strength, always staying true to herself. She found joy in simple moments and meaningful friendships. No one had more strength and determination than Dawn. She fought through medical setbacks with amazing determination and courage. Her family holds onto the comforting truth that she has found peace, free at last from the pain she valiantly bore through the final years of her journey.
Dawn’s warmth, caring heart, and unwavering love for family, friends, and animals leave behind a legacy that will never be forgotten. Though she will be deeply missed, her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. May she rest in peace, reunited with those who went before her, especially her faithful companions, Sydney and Sundance.
Cherished daughter of Charlotte and the late Richard Cooney. Beloved sister of Danielle (Tom) Fisher, and the late Shawn Cooney (Lisa). Loving aunt of Joshua (Jessica), Chris, Daniel, Kyler (Burgandy), Braden (Amanda), Delainey, Jaymin (McKenna) and Rylan.
Visitation Friday, July 17, 2026 from 6-8 PM at Humes Funeral Home, 320 W. Lake St., Addison (2 Mi. W. of Rt. 83, 2 Mi. E. of Rt. 53). Interment will be held in Highland, Utah.
