Edward J. Skarbek, 92, of Addison, passed away on October 1, 2026. A devout Catholic and proud U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War (USS Begor, APD 127), and a 66‑year member of IBEW Local 134. Ed devoted his life to service, craftsmanship, and community.
Ed was a friend to everyone he met. A builder in every sense, he was a master electrician, a woodworker, and a baker whose creations reflected his passion to learn. He approached life with curiosity and determination, always eager to learn something new. He rarely needed to hire help—if a job needed doing, he could do it himself. And on the rare occasion he couldn’t, he always knew a guy.
His hands built things, but his kindness built connections. His legacy lives on in the people he helped, the things he crafted, and the love he shared.
Son of the late Joseph F and Mary (Gnat) Skarbek. Loving husband of the late Mary Anne Skarbek. Dear father of Lynn (the late John) Connelly, Matthew (Marilyn) Skarbek, and Andrew Skarbek. Cherished grandfather of Lara Skarbek, Sabrina Skarbek, and Grace Skarbek. Brother of the late John (Bernice) Skarbek, the late Theodore (Phyllis) Skarbek, and Mary Jane (Donald) Hastings. Uncle to Barbara DeFalco, Tom Maguire, Joseph J (Rachel) Maguire, Kathryn (Jason) Smith, Lauren Hastings. David Hastings and Dana Hastings. Great Uncle to Gina (Bryan) Fabbrini, Jospeh T (JT) and Maverick Maguire, Drew and Drake Smith, Sophia and Evan Hastings. Great-great-uncle to Bennett Fabbrini. Also survived by many cousins and friends.
Visitation Thursday, October 8, 2026 from 4 - 8 PM at Humes Funeral Home, 320 W. Lake Street, Addison (2 Mi. W. of Rt. 83, 2 Mi. E. of Rt. 53). Chapel prayers on Friday, October 9, 2026, at 9:30 AM from Humes Funeral Home to St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church, 1233 W. Holtz Avenue, Addison, for Mass at 10:00 AM.
