Jaime Fernandez

Jaime Fernandez, 75, of Meadows of Dan, VA, died on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at Pioneer Community Hospital. He was born April 26, 1941 to the late Noemi Frausto and Arnulfo Fernandez Sr., in Agujitas, Sabinas, Coahuila, Mexico. The family migrated to the U.S. in 1955 as farmworkers, first arriving in Dousman, Wisconsin, then Des Plaines, Illinois, and eventually settling in Chicago. Jaime and Cirila (Lucy) Rojas met and married in 1959 and had three children. In 1964, Jaime joined international Harvester in Melrose Park, IL, working as a welder and later machinist, and was a lifelong member of the United Auto Workers. In 1972 the family moved to Addison, Illinois to be near several of Jaime's siblings. Jaime was passionate about sports, in his younger years encouraging his brothers and children to participate, especially in karate in which he became very skilled, earning a third degree black belt. Throughout his life, Jaime was a deep spiritual man, devoted to family, offering an open heart and home, and providing all manner of support to both family and friends in the time of need. After his retirement from International Harvester-Navistar in 2003, Jaime and his wife moved to Meadows of Dan, Virginia in 2004, enjoying the beautiful countryside, gardening, and visit with family and friends. There the couple attended the Risen Lord Catholic Church in Stuart, Virginia. Jaime is survived by his wife, Cirila Fernandez; three sons, James Fernandez of Algonquin, IL; Edward J. Fernandez of Calabasas, CA; Raul Fernandez of Chicago, IL; five sisters, Raquel Fernandez, Magdalena Mesa, Hilda Maldonado, Rosa Maria Fernandez, Arnulfo Fernandez Jr,. Hector Fernandez Jr; and seven grandchildren, Jesse Fernandez, Sandra Ferrell, Edward Fernandez, Jr., Chantel Fernandez, Maya Fernandez, Ria Fernandez and Valentina Fernandez. The family will receive friends at Humes Funeral Home, 320 W. Lake St. Addison, IL on Thursday, January 26, from 3-9p and at Norris Funeral Home, 129 Howell Lane in Stuart, VA on Sunday, January 29, 2017 from 1-2pm. The funeral and burial will be held at 2pm on Sunday January 29, 2017 at Patrick Memorial Gardens in Stuart, VA.
