James Emil Stepuncik, 82, of Addison passed away peacefully at his home on October 11, 2026. Born in Chicago on May 27, 1944 to Emil and Josephine (Janik) Stepuncik. A respected and deeply rooted member of the community, James leaves behind a legacy of dedicated military service, faith-filled civic pride, and devotion to his family, church, colleagues, and fellow veterans.
As a young man, James answered the call to serve his country when he was drafted into the US Army during the Vietnam War. His time in uniform shaped his lifelong dedication to his fellow service members. James translated his patriotism and faith into local action. He was a proud member of the VFW, spending many years serving with Addison VFW Post 7446. He was also a dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus, championing charitable works and community fellowship. James began his professional career working at GTE. He then continued his career working for and eventually retiring from the Addison Park District. Through his work there, he helped maintain the public spaces and parks that his neighbors enjoyed daily. Outside of his civic and professional commitments, James found great joy in local league bowling and peacefulness in the quiet solace of fishing. He was known to neighbors and close friends as a man of resilience, quiet strength, profound warmth.
He is survived by his loving family including his wife of 53 years, Patricia (Faillo) Stepuncik and his children Gina (partner Dan), Steven, and Susan. He held a special place in his heart for his cherished granddaughter Elizabeth. He is also survived by many cousins and friends.
