Jean Mary Hautzinger

Jean Mary Hautzinger, 78, of Addison, passed away on October 24, 2026 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born April 1, 1948 in Melrose Park, Illinois, to the late James “Jack” and Jennie Sartore.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Steve; children, John (Jackie) Hautzinger, Jennifer (Tony) Andrews, and Steven (Dorota) Hautzinger; grandchildren, Grace, Owen, Dominic, Matthias, Veronica, Samuel, and Sofia; brother, Donald (Sandy) Sartore; sister-in-law, Margaret Sartore; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Ralph Sartore and Jacqueline Castellano.

Jean was a hardworking, loving, and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who always made sure her family had everything they needed. She had a big personality, a strong opinion, and a joyful spirit that could fill any room. She worked at Addison Trail High School for 28 years, where she touched the lives of countless students, many of whom affectionately called her “Grandma.” A lifelong Chicago Cubs and Bears fan, she loved cheering on her teams, especially when she could watch her beloved Cubs play at Wrigley Field. But nothing compared to watching her own children and grandchildren play sports, and she rarely missed a game.

Jean was an exceptional cook, best known for her homemade gravy and neck bones. Her Sunday dinners brought family together, and the holidays wouldn’t have been complete without the handmade fried ravioli, an all-day labor of love that became a cherished family tradition. She loved hosting family gatherings, especially her Fourth of July celebrations, bringing everyone together to enjoy good food, laughter, and each other’s company. Jean always made sure there was plenty of food on the table and that nobody ever left hungry. Her legendary Christmas shopping was just another way she showed her love. Above all, nothing made Jean happier than being surrounded by her grandchildren. She also enjoyed traveling with family, especially the cruises she shared with Steve, and spending time on her crafts.

Jean was deeply devoted to her Catholic faith, which was an important part of her life. She was actively involved in the St. Joseph’s Parish community, where she participated in the Knights of Columbus Women’s Auxiliary and the Council of Catholic Women. At St. Philip’s Parish, she shared her faith with younger generations as a religious education teacher and was one of the leaders of the fundraising committee for the parish’s gymnasium addition. Her dedication to both parish communities reflected her generous heart and lifelong commitment to her faith.

Jean brought love, laughter, and joy wherever she went, and she gave generously of herself to everyone she held dear. Her greatest joy was her family, and the love and memories she leaves behind will be cherished for generations.
