John Sam Pettineo passed away on January 8, 2026. He was born on April 8, 1939, in Chicago, IL.

John grew up in Chicago and met his wife-to-be when he was 16 and she was 14. They were married in 1961 and would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on January 14th. They have 4 children and 6 grandchildren.

John loved cars and worked in the auto insurance industry as an auto and heavy equipment damage appraiser for 50 years. He also owned his own auto body shop - Ward Auto Body - for several years.

John and Pat loved boating and enjoyed weekends on Lake Geneva and Lake Michigan. John belonged to Maywood Sportsmen's Club and did trap shooting there. He especially loved playing golf and belonged to the VFW League at White Pines Golf Course in Bensenville, IL. After retiring from full time work, he worked as a starter at White Pines, loved being at the course and played at courses around the country with friends and family. John and Pat loved to travel and especially enjoyed cruises.

John is survived by his wife of 65 years Patricia, his children Michael (Laura), David (Theresa), Tim (Sheri) and Jennifer (John), and his grandchildren Michael, Caitlin, Abigail, Patrick, Matthew and Jacob.

John was preceded in death by his parents Sam and Ida Pettineo and his brothers Louis (Marcella) and Frank (Sue).

A visitation will be held Friday, January 16, 2026, from 4 to 8 pm at Humes Funeral Home, 320 W. Lake St., Addison (2 Mi. W. of Rt. 83, 2 Mi. E. of Rt. 53). Funeral service will be held Saturday, January 17, 2026, 10:15 am from Humes Funeral Home to Church of the Holy Ghost Catholic Church, Wood Dale for Mass at 11:00 am. Interment to follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
