Nancy Lee Thomas, 87, of Addison, Illinois, passed away peacefully on December 12, 2024.
Born on February 23, 1937, in Michigan City, Indiana, Nancy was the beloved daughter of Ruth and Lawrence Hamilton. She later moved to Valparaiso, Indiana, with her mother and stepfather, Stanley Markiewicz. Together, they opened a restaurant where Nancy worked, learning the value of hard work and dedication. It was at this restaurant that she met her future husband, Vern Thomas, a North Carolina native who was working on the construction of the Indiana Tollway. The two married on July 27, 1957, in Michigan City, Indiana, and soon began their life together by moving to Illinois.
Nancy and Vern lovingly raised two children, Kathleen and Michael. A devoted homemaker, Nancy took pride in her family and was actively involved in her children’s lives. She served as a PTA member and Girl Scout leader, creating lasting memories for many during their formative years.
Later, Nancy dedicated herself to helping others as a Certified Nursing Assistant and Home Health Aide, bringing comfort and care to countless individuals. She also contributed her talents to the family-owned travel agency, which fueled her love for travel and gave her the opportunity to explore new places.
Nancy is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Vern Thomas; her parents, Ruth Markiewicz and Lawrence Hamilton; her stepfather, Stanley Markiewicz; her sister, Delores Ray (Fred); and her half-siblings, Johnny Lehman and Rosalie Lasky.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness in her children, Kathleen Thomas-Vogel (Randy) and Michael Thomas (Martha Cvikota); her treasured grandson, Robert Vogel; and numerous nieces and nephews who will forever hold her memory dear.
A celebration of Nancy’s remarkable life will take place in the spring of 2025. Her family invites all who knew and loved her to join them in honoring her legacy.
