Robin Lea Zimmerman, 64, of Addison, Illinois, beloved wife of the late Rev. Jim Zimmerman, was born in St. Paul, Minnesota, to Larry D. Winter (chemist) and Ellie L. (nee Olson) (teacher). She is survived by her parents, son Theodore Andrew, sister Lea (Dave) Papritz, nieces Amy, Brooke, Summer, Abigail, Hayley and nephew Joshua Papritz.
As a young girl, Robin had an affinity for horses. After moving to Hudson, Wisconsin, Robin was thrilled to raise and train her first horse Shaboo with more to follow. She became an accomplished equestrian, showing her own horses and others. During her college years, Robin supervised YMCA Camp St Croix’s horse wrangler program for several summers.
Robin came to receive Christ as her Savior at a young age and relished telling others about Him. She greatly enjoyed helping with Vacation Bible School. Robin was a faithful friend, an honor student, swim team member, and a gifted artist who enjoyed drawing horses.
Robin met Jim while a student attending Christ College in Irvine, California where she majored in Evangelism Outreach. After graduating and marrying Jim in 1982, Robin worked as an Evangelism Director in several churches while Jim attended seminary and served as a Pastor. Robin also worked as a Chaplain and in high school ministry before pursuing her Masters Degree in Psychology, graduating from Governor State University with high honors in 1995. She then began her new career as a School Psychologist.
Robin’s hobbies included reading, cake decorating, sudoku, and strumming her guitar in worship. She also enjoyed traveling with her family taking vacations to Indiana, Nevada, Arizona, Tennessee, Florida and the Dakotas.
On August 8th and after battling cancer for twelve years, Robin flew into the arms of her precious Savior and Shepherd in glory. She will be greatly missed but we look forward with anticipation to the day we will again be reunited. Robin, we celebrate your life! You loved others and cherished Jesus WELL! We love you.
A celebration of Robin’s life will be held at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Addison on Saturday, August 24th at 10am. Attendees should feel free to wear bright colors reflecting the celebration.
